Fisherman's Arms, Castle Street, Scalloway

The Fisherman's Arms is a public house located on Castle Street in Scalloway, built around 1840. It is a two-storey building with seven bays. The front elevation is cement-rendered and lined, while the sides and rear are constructed from harl-pointed rubble.

The principal elevation is asymmetrical, with a grouping of four bays on the left and three on the right. The left side features a symmetrical arrangement with doors in the central bays, although the left door has been infilled. The flanking bays and the first floor have regular window placements. On the right side, there is a door in the central bay with windows in the flanking bays, and again, regular fenestration at the first floor. The gables on the north and south sides are blank.

At the rear, there are modern flat-roofed additions to the left of center and a single-storey rubble wing with a mono-pitch roof on the outer right, which includes windows at the first floor. The building has modern glazing throughout. The roof is made of purple-grey slate and features sandstone ashlar skew-copes, which are finished at the eaves with scrolled skewputts. The gablehead stacks are made of stugged sandstone and are capped with octagonal cans.
