Description
The Bulwark, located on New Street in Scalloway, is an 18th-century, two-storey, three-bay symmetrical former fishing booth. The building features harl-pointed random rubble walls. The principal elevation faces west and is centered by a vertically-boarded timber door, with windows in the flanking bays and in the outer bays at the first floor. The lower floor is concealed on the rear elevation, which is also centered by a vertically-boarded timber door. There is a vertically boarded timber door at the upper level in the north gable.
The windows are made of plate glass and are timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and has stone skew-copes. The gablehead stacks are made of stone and are coped, featuring both circular and octagonal cans.
