Description

The Scalloway Meat Company is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, seven-bay terrace of shops with flats above, located on Main Street in Scalloway. The building features cement-rendered and lined walls that are painted with margins.

The north elevation facing Main Street has a seven-bay arrangement grouped as three bays on the left, one in the center, and three on the right. The leftmost three-bay shop includes a modern timber shop door in the center flanked by shop windows, with a narrow window to the right of the door and regular fenestration on the first floor. The center bay has a shop window at ground level, a two-leaf four-panel timber door with a rectangular fanlight to the right, and a small window above. The rightmost three-bay shop also has a modern timber shop door flanked by shop windows at ground level, with a narrow blind window to the left of the door and regular fenestration on the first floor.

The east gable features an infilled door offset to the left of center, flanked by two blind shop windows. The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a modern addition projecting at the center, a three-bay elevation to the right that is blank to the right of the door in the left bay, and regular fenestration on the first floor. To the left of the addition is a single bay elevation with windows on both the ground and first floors.

The west gable has a single window centered on the first floor. The upper floor of the principal elevation has eight-pane timber sash and case windows, while the rear elevation features four-pane and six-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with purple-grey slate and has harled skew-copes, along with harled and painted gablehead stacks topped with stone copes.
