Description
25 and 27 Evan Street in Stonehaven is an early 19th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay terraced pair of shops located on a corner site, with flatted dwellings above. The building features unusual round-arched openings at the ground level and a chamfered angle that is mitred to a square. The construction includes ashlar stone with a stuccoed and whitewashed ground floor on the south side and dry-dash on the first floor to the west. There are base and band courses, along with a keystoned blind Venetian window.
On the south elevation, there is a modern timber door at the center with a decorative semicircular fanlight above it. To the right, there is another modern door with a plate glass semicircular fanlight, and fixed display windows in the outer bays, each situated below a plain fascia board. The first floor has three windows, and the mansard roof above features two tripartite dormers flanking a modern rooflight.
The southwest corner elevation has a chamfered angle that is mitred to a square at the first floor above a modern door. The west elevation, facing Ann Street, is gabled and includes two display windows at the ground level and three windows on the first floor, with the center window blocked and a blind Venetian window in the gablehead.
The first floor windows are original timber sash and case with plate glass glazing, while the dormers have replacement windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar and dry-dash stacks with cans, along with ashlar-coped skews.
