Description
Gordon F Mowat, located at 7 Evan Street in Stonehaven, is an early 19th-century terraced building that is part of a continuous design with Nos 1, 3, and 5. It features two storeys and an attic, with three bays above ground and shops at the ground level, constructed from coursed squared rubble.
The principal elevation includes two shops, each with an inner door and window beneath a continuous consoled and corniced fascia. The smaller shop on the right retains good traditional details, including a timber-lined, in-canted doorway with an encaustic-tiled step, a part-glazed timber door, and fluted colonettes. On the first floor, there are three windows, with the left of centre window altered to a bipartite design. There are also two piended bipartite dormers, which were originally tripartite, with cills positioned below the eaves.
The windows feature a 4-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case. The building has coped squared rubble stacks with thackstanes and cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews.
Inside, No 7, the smaller shop, retains a display window that comprises a glazed screen with a three-part toplight.
