Description

The Lodge at Monteviot House is an early 19th-century building designed in an L-plan, featuring a gabled single storey and basement. It is constructed from squared and snecked stugged cream ashlar sandstone with polished dressings, and has moulded and chamfered arrises along with a base course.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has three bays. The left bay is broader and features an advanced gable with a canted window that has a panelled pedestal. The central bay contains a door set in a gabled porch with a roll-moulded lugged frame and a blind panel above. To the right is a set-back blank bay.

The east elevation consists of two bays, with a narrow window in the set-back left bay and a gabled right bay that has a tripartite window and a blind arrowslit in the gablehead.

On the west elevation, there is a tripartite window at the centre, topped by a gabled dormerhead that contains a blind panel. Above a single basement window, there is a moulded base course.

The north elevation, or rear, also has two bays. It features a basement window to the left and a gabled bay to the right, which includes a ground-level window and a blind arrowslit above, along with a modern harled and gabled projecting addition at the basement.

The lodge has timber tilt and swing plate glass windows, grey slate roofing, saw tooth ashlar coped skews, corbel skewputts, and finials, as well as a coped ashlar stack at the centre. There is a rubble wall to the southeast with ashlar coping and a terminating pier. Additionally, two timber gatepiers and ironwork remain, which include half of the original set, along with a pedestrian gate and fencing that adjoins the wall.
