5 Market Square, Duns

5 Market Square in Duns is an early 19th-century, three-storey, three-bay house that features a shop on the ground floor. The exterior is rendered to resemble ashlar with raised margins, while the sides and rear are harled.

The north elevation facing Market Square has long and short rusticated quoins, a base course, and a cill course at the first floor. The ground floor includes a three-bay shop located in the center and to the right, featuring a glazed and panelled door at the center flanked by large square three-pane shop windows. These windows are highlighted by pilasters that support a full entablature, which meets the first-floor cill course. To the left, there is a window that aligns with those above, featuring a consoled cill and cornice. The upper floors have windows in each bay, which are enlarged on the second floor.

The east elevation has a blank gable with a small window to the left at the first floor and bargeboards. There is a low screen wall to the left with an access door.

The south elevation is irregular with three bays and features a projecting single-storey block at the center. The building has timber sash and case windows, with 12-pane windows on the first floor and 4-pane windows on the second floor. The roof is covered with grey slates and has a rendered apex stack.
