Description
2 and 4 Murray Street in Duns is a mid-19th century, three-storey, three-bay house that includes a shop on the ground floor. The building features stugged cream sandstone ashlar, with rubble on the side and rear. The front elevation facing Murray Street has a panelled door with a rectangular plate glass fanlight to the outer right, framed by rusticated pilasters with shallow nailhead capitals. To the left, there is a modern tiled and glazed shopfront, complemented by a further pilaster at the corner and a unifying cornice above. The upper floors have regular windows.
The southeast elevation has a blank gable, while the southwest rear elevation is irregular with three bays and the shop extending at ground level. A slightly projecting drum stair tower is positioned at the center, with a closet window to the right on the first floor. The right bay features a bipartite window on the first floor. The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, ashlar coped skews, and brick apex stacks with ashlar bases.
