47 Market Square, Duns

47 Market Square in Duns is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay house. The exterior is rendered and lined with painted ashlar dressings, while the sides and rear are harled. It features bipartite timber box dormers.

The northern front elevation includes a base course, a band course above the ground floor, a cill course, a dentilled cornice, and rusticated long and short quoins. The windows have raised margins and regular spacing, with the first-floor windows featuring fluted aprons. At the center, there is a Roman Doric pilastered doorpiece with a broad flush-panelled door and a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing. There are three dormers on this elevation.

The western elevation has a blank gable. The southern elevation is three-bay with a projecting drum stair tower at the center, which has a door on the side at ground level and a tall stair window. The flanking bays each have windows on both floors and dormers.

The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with plate glass in the dormers. The roof is covered with grey slates, featuring ashlar coped skews and a rendered stack. The interior was unseen in 1993.
