38, 39, 44, 45 Market Square in Duns is a late 19th century, two-storey and attic, three-bay double-fronted shop, flanked by buildings on both sides, with identical elevations. The structure features coursed cream ashlar stone, polished at the ground level and stugged on the first floor, with polished dressings. It has a base course, alternating buckle quoins, stop-roll-moulded arrises at the ground level, and raised margins on the first floor.

On the ground floor to the right, there is a three-bay shop with a central two-leaf panelled door, flanked by large plate glass shop windows. The left bay has a corresponding panelled door with a rectangular plate glass fanlight above.

Above this, there is a band course, three windows on the first floor, and three segmental-headed timber dormers. The windows are four-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered in grey slates, with ashlar coped skews and corniced ashlar stacks. Moulded cast-iron gutters with decorative brackets and downpipes complete the exterior.
