40, 41 Market Square, Duns

40 and 41 Market Square in Duns is a late 19th-century, three-storey tenement building with a shop on the ground floor, situated on a corner site. The structure features coursed and stugged cream ashlar, which is painted at the ground level. It has a base course, a band course above the ground floor, and raised tabbed margins. The building exhibits regular fenestration and has a chamfered angle with a window on each floor.

The east elevation is two bays and gabled, with a two-leaf fielded panelled door for the shop on the right at ground level, accompanied by a large plate glass shop window to the left. The windows in the right bay of the upper floors are blind.

The north elevation is also two bays. The left bay is gabled and features a shop window at ground level, while the right bay has a window at ground level and a panelled door with a rectangular plate glass fanlight to the right.

The building is fitted with four-pane timber sash and case windows. It has a piend and pitched roof covered with grey slates, ashlar coped skews, corbel skewputts, and original corniced brick apex stacks.
