Description
12 School Place in Kirkwall is an early 19th-century house that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay, rectangular-plan symmetrical building, situated slightly back from the street on rising ground. The exterior is harled, and the first-floor windows are positioned close to the eaves.
On the southeast, or principal elevation, there is a timber panelled door located in the central bay at ground level, with a small window above it on the first floor. Each bay has a window on both floors flanking the central door.
The southwest side elevation features a window set to the right on the first floor, with a gablehead stack above it. The windows are timber sash and case, with 12 panes and a single-over-six configuration, and there is a timber-framed central window on the first floor. The roof is covered with purple slate and includes a stone ridge and stone skews, along with harled, corniced gablehead stacks. The property also has uPVC rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
