Description
23 Main Street in Kirkwall is an earlier 19th-century house with later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical structure with a rear projection, creating an L-shaped plan, and it is adjacent to a single-storey house to the east. The exterior is harled, and the first-floor window is positioned close to the eaves.
On the south elevation, the main entrance features a timber panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above, located in the central bay. There is a window on the first floor and a window in each bay on both floors flanking the entrance.
The west elevation is blank, with a gablehead stack above. The house has four-pane timber sash and case windows, and there are two small rooflights evenly spaced on the south pitch. The roof is covered in grey slate with a stone ridge, and it has harled, corniced gablehead stacks. The rainwater goods are predominantly made of uPVC.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
