Description
8 School Place in Kirkwall is a late 18th to early 19th century cottage that has undergone some alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan, positioned in the center of a small terrace on rising ground to the south. The exterior is harled, and the first-floor windows are set close to the eaves, featuring concrete cills.
On the west elevation, which is the principal front, there is a modern, part-glazed door located in the central bay. To the left, there is a bipartite window at ground level, with a corresponding window above it on the first floor. The bay to the right has a window on each floor.
The north and south side elevations adjoin Numbers 6 and 10, which are listed separately. The cottage has two-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey tiled roof with a stone ridge, mutual stone skews, and shared harled, corbelled stacks. The rainwater goods are made of uPVC. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
