11 School Place, Kirkwall

11 School Place in Kirkwall is an early 19th-century house that has undergone some later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay, rectangular-plan symmetrical house, with a lower four-bay asymmetrical block to the left, forming part of a small terrace on the west side of School Place, built on rising ground to the south. The exterior is harled, and the first-floor windows are set close under the eaves.

On the east (principal) elevation, the three-bay symmetrical block features a deep-set modern timber-panelled door at ground level in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. There is a window in each floor of the two flanking bays. The four-bay asymmetrical block has windows in the two central bays at ground level, with a window in the outer right bay on each floor, and a deep-set door in the outer left bay.

The north (side) elevation adjoins Number 7. The house has two-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with a stone ridge, harled gablehead stacks with cornices, and predominantly cast-iron rainwater goods.
