Description
25 Victoria Street in Kirkwall is an earlier 19th-century house that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan asymmetrical building with a gable end that is set back from the street, featuring a slightly recessed bay on the outer left. The exterior is harled.
On the north (principal) elevation, the bays are grouped one and two, with a deep-set modern timber door that has a letterbox fanlight located in the centre bay at ground level, and a window above it on the first floor. There is a non-aligned window at each floor in the outer right bay, and a window at each floor in the recessed bay on the outer left.
The east (side) elevation has a window offset to the left of centre on each floor, along with a centred louvered opening in the gable and a spike-finialled gablehead above.
On the west (side) elevation, there is a window offset to the left at the first floor, with a gablehead stack above.
The house features 12- and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, a traditional graded stone slated roof, a stone ridge, stone skews, and a wide harled, corniced gablehead stack on the west gable, along with terracotta cans and uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
