1 Nicolson Street, Kirkwall

1 Nicolson Street in Kirkwall is an earlier 19th-century house that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan building with a flat-roofed addition at the rear, finished in harled render with plain cement margins around the openings.

The principal elevation faces northeast and features a timber panelled door with a letterbox fanlight in the central bay at ground level, with a window directly above it on the first floor. Each of the three bays has a window on both floors flanking the central entrance.

The southeast and northwest side elevations are blank, featuring gablehead stacks. The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case types. The roof is covered in grey slate with a stone ridge, and the gablehead stacks are harled and corniced. The property has uPVC rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998. The boundary walls consist of a low harled wall with cement copes, and there are square-plan low piers at the center.
