Description
This 18th-century house at 22 High Street, Kirkwall, has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey building with a single bay gabled end facing the street and a two-bay flat-roofed block extending over the garage from the entrance elevation. The exterior is harled.
On the north (High Street) elevation, there is a window on each floor, positioned to the right of center, with a gablehead stack above. The bridging block over the garage features a window in each bay, set back to the outer left.
The east (entrance) elevation has a deep-set timber door located in the central bay at ground level, beneath the bridging block. There is a window at the first floor in the bay to the right and another window at ground level in the outer right bay.
The windows are timber-framed with top-hung upper lights. The roof is covered with purple Welsh slate, featuring a stone ridge and stone skews, along with harled, corniced gablehead stacks on the north and south sides. The property has uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen during the inspection in 1998.
