Description
54 and 56 Victoria Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century house with later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a rectangular plan and a crowstep gable, which is attached to a separate two-storey, two-bay house on the right side. The exterior is harled.
On the west (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set boarded door at the ground level, located in a bay that is offset to the left of the center. Flanking the door are windows in each bay, with a larger window in the outer right bay. The upper level features regular fenestration.
The north (side) elevation includes a later flat-roofed projection at the ground level, with a gablehead stack above it.
The windows are timber sash and case, with 2 and 12 panes. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a stone ridge, cavetto moulded skewputts, and a corniced gablehead stack on the north side, while there is a common coped stack on the south side. The property has uPVC rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
