Description
51 Victoria Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century house that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular building with a symmetrical design and a stop-chamfered southeast angle. The ground floor is painted cement-rendered and lined, while the upper part is harled. The ground floor features aproned cills.
On the east (principal) elevation, there are three widened windows evenly spaced at the ground level, with a cast inscription above the central window that reads 'SOL DEO GLORIA'. To the outer right, there is a modern part-glazed door located in the stop-chamfered angle. The first floor also has three evenly spaced windows, and just below the eaves of the central window, there is a triangular thistle motif.
The first-floor windows are two-pane timber sash and case style, while the ground floor has large shop windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are stone skews and uPVC rainwater goods. The interior has been converted into a shop on the ground floor, with the upper floor remaining unseen.
