Description
This is an 18th-century, two-storey, three-bay house located at 8 Main Street in Kirkwall, which has undergone later alterations. The house has a rectangular plan and a near-symmetrical design, featuring a crowstepped gable and harled exterior.
On the west (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set modern, part-glazed door at ground level in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. To the right, there is a window on each floor, while the left bay has an enlarged bipartite window at ground level and a window above on the first floor.
The north (side) elevation is blank and includes a gablehead stack.
The windows are two-pane timber sash and case style, and there is a rooflight on the west side. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are harled, corniced gablehead stacks on both the north and south sides. The property has uPVC gutters and cast-iron downpipes.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
