Description
10 Clay Loan is an 18th-century cottage that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay, rectangular-plan building with a crowstepped design, situated in the center of a small terrace on rising ground to the west. The exterior is cement-rendered and lined.
On the south elevation, which is the principal front, there is a modern glazed door located in the central bay, with a window in each of the flanking bays on both floors. The east and west side elevations are adjoined by similar cottages in the terrace.
The north rear elevation features a full-height lean-to addition that spans the entire width of the rear. The cottage has uPVC windows on the ground floor and timber-framed windows on the first floor, all fitted with top-hung upper lights. There are three evenly spaced rooflights on the north pitch. The roof is covered with graded traditional Caithness stone, featuring a stone ridge, and there are common harled, corniced, and coped stacks on the east and west sides. The rainwater goods are made of uPVC.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
