Description
2 High Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century, two-storey, three-bay end-of-terrace house that has undergone later alterations. It features a rectangular plan and is built on ground that rises to the west. The exterior is harled with an eaves course, and the first-floor windows are positioned close to the eaves.
On the north (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set, modern, part-glazed door located in the central bay at ground level, with a small, narrow window above it on the first floor. Each bay on this elevation has a window on both floors flanking the door.
The east (side) elevation is blank and has a gablehead stack. The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with a central first-floor window featuring two panes. The roof is traditionally covered with graded stone tiles (which have been replaced), and it includes a stone ridge, stone skews, and a harled, corniced gablehead stack on the east side, along with a similar common stack on the west. The property has uPVC rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
