26 Wellington Street, Kirkwall

26 Wellington Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century house that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a single-storey building with an attic and features a four-bay asymmetrical rectangular plan. The house has a crow-stepped gable facing the street and pitched-roofed dormers, situated on slightly rising ground to the south. The exterior is harled.

On the west (principal) elevation, there is a flat-roofed part-glazed entrance porch located in the bay to the right of centre, with a modern door on the left return and a dormer window above. There is a window at ground level in the outer right bay and a part-glazed door in the bay to the left of centre. Each floor has a window in the outer left bay.

The north elevation, which faces Wellington Street, is two bays wide, with a window at each floor in the left bay and a window at ground level in the right bay, topped by a gablehead stack.

The east and south elevations are blank. The house features replacement uPVC windows and rooflights on the east pitch. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a stone ridge, with a harled, corniced stack on the north side and a similar cement-rendered stack on the south side. uPVC rainwater goods are also present.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
