Description
6 Wellington Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century pair of single-storey and attic cottages, with Number 8 on the right being roofless. The cottages have a rectangular plan and feature a chamfered northwest angle, adjoining Numbers 2 and 4 to the left, which are listed separately. The exterior is constructed from random rubble.
On the principal elevation, Number 6 has three bays, previously four. There is a boarded door in the bay to the left of the center, with a window on each floor in the outer left bay. A blocked door is located in the bay to the right of the center, and there is a window on each floor in the outer right bay. Number 8 also has three bays, formerly four, with a two-leaf boarded door in the bay to the left of the center, and a boarded window in the outer left bay. There is a blocked doorway in the bay to the right of the center and a blocked window in the chamfered angle to the outer right.
Number 6 features timber-framed windows, and both cottages have a traditional graded stone slate roof with a tar covering, a stone ridge, and a rubble gablehead stack to the east of Number 6. The rainwater goods are made of uPVC. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
