Description

29 Victoria Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century house with later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay, near-symmetrical rectangular building with crowstepped gables, located at the end of a terrace next to a two-storey, two-bay house to the east, which is not listed. There is a single-storey, flat-roofed addition on the outer left side.

The main (south) elevation features a window on each floor in the central and left bays. There is a horizontally arranged bipartite window in the addition, which is set back on the outer left. A modern part-glazed timber door is located in a widened doorway at ground level in the right bay, with a window above it on the first floor.

On the west (side) elevation, there is a large bipartite window in the addition at ground level, offset to the left, and a window in the main block above it on the first floor. There is also a window at ground level in the right bay of the main block, with a gablehead stack above.

The north (rear) elevation is blank. The building features two-pane timber sash and case windows, with timber-framed windows in the additions and small rooflights on the south pitch. The roof is corrugated with a stone ridge, and there is a crowstepped gable on the west side. The west gable has a harled, corniced gablehead stack, while a similar common stack is located on the east side. The property predominantly uses uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
