39 Victoria Street, Kirkwall

39 Victoria Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century house that has been altered over time. It is a two-storey building with an attic and has a rectangular plan with crow-stepped gables. The ground floor has been converted into a shop. The exterior features cement rendering and lining on the ground floor, while the upper part and the south side are harled. The windows have cement margins and strip quoins.

On the east (principal) elevation, there are three evenly spaced windows at ground level, with a window in each bay on the floors above, and a gablehead stack. The south (side) elevation has deep-set, irregular openings at ground level and four regularly spaced windows on the first floor. The west (rear) elevation includes a single-storey projection from the left of the centre bay, an attic window above the main block, and a window in each floor of the right bay.

The building features 2-, 4-, and 12-pane timber sash and case windows, large timber-framed shop windows on the east at ground level, and small-pane timber-framed attic windows on the east. There are also rooflights on the south pitch. The roof is covered with grey slate and has harled corniced gablehead stacks, along with uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1998.
