Description
5 Walls Close in Kirkwall is possibly an 18th-century house that has undergone later alterations. It is a single-storey and attic, three-bay rectangular-plan, symmetrical end of terrace house, adjoining another terrace to the east. The building features pitch-roofed dormers that break the eaves and has a single-storey lean-to projection on the west side. The exterior is harled with an eaves course, and there is a rectangular-plan garden to the west.
On the south (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set part-glazed timber door located in the central bay. Each of the flanking bays contains a window at both floors. To the outer left, there is a deep-set boarded door in the lean-to projection.
The west (side) elevation features a lean-to projection that spans the ground level. There is a window in the right bay at the first floor, and a gablehead stack is positioned above.
The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with modern grey slate, while the lean-to has a traditional graded stone slate roof. The building has stone skews, a harled, corniced gablehead stack on the west side, a common stack on the east side, cylindrical cans, and uPVC rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998. Surrounding the rectangular-plan garden to the west are rubble coped boundary walls.
