Description
24 High Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century house that has seen some late alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a symmetrical, rectangular plan and crow-stepped gables. The exterior is cement-rendered and lined, featuring plain margins around the ground floor openings. The first-floor windows are positioned close to the eaves.
On the northwest (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set boarded door located in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. Each bay has a window on both floors.
The northeast (side) elevation is blank, with a gablehead stack above. The windows are four-pane timber sash and case. The roof is modern, covered with felt in a fish-scale pattern, and has a stone ridge. The gablehead stacks on the northeast and southwest are corniced, and the property has uPVC rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
