Description
18 High Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century terraced house that has undergone some later alterations. This two-storey, three-bay building has a symmetrical rectangular plan and features a plain classical style with crow-stepped gables. The exterior is cement-rendered and lined, with plain margins around the openings at the ground level. The windows are timber mullioned bipartite designs.
On the north elevation, which is the principal facade, there is a part-glazed timber-panelled door located in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. Each bay has a bipartite window on both floors. The windows are two-pane timber sash and case types, and there are three evenly spaced rooflights on the northern pitch. The roof is modern and covered with asbestos fish scale tiles, featuring a stone ridge and harled, corniced gablehead stacks on both the east and west sides. The property also has uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
