Description
7 Nicolson Street in Kirkwall is a house built in the earlier to mid 19th century, with some later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular house that has a symmetrical design, featuring a full-height, slightly advanced gabled bay at the center topped with a finial. The exterior is harled, with concrete block cills.
On the north elevation, which is the principal side, there is a deep-set modern timber door at ground level in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. Each of the flanking bays has a window on both floors. The west side elevation has a window set to the right on the first floor, with a gablehead stack above it.
The house predominantly features two-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes a stone ridge and stone skews. There are harled, corniced gablehead stacks on the east and west sides, and the property has uPVC rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998. The boundary walls consist of low rubble walls on the north elevation with a stone coping, and higher rubble walls with a rubble coping enclosing a rectangular garden to the west.
