Claremont, 13 Matheson Road, Stornoway, Lewis

Claremont is a late 19th century two-storey villa located at 13 Matheson Road in Stornoway, Lewis. The villa features a three-bay L-plan front and is enclosed by iron-railed boundary walls. The exterior is constructed from snecked and squared rubble, with contrasting painted render detailing.

The advanced gable on the right side includes an iron-crested two-storey square projecting bay and an attic roundel. The first-floor dormer heads on the remaining bays are topped with neo-Jacobean shaped gables that have iron finials. There is a neo-Georgian porch with iron cresting located in the re-entrant angle, which features a panelled door and a modern radial fanlight. The left bay contains bipartite windows, while the glazing throughout is modern. The villa has skews, end stacks, and a slate roof.

The boundary walls are stepped to follow the slope of the land and are complemented by decorative cast-iron railings and the original front gate.
