Balone, 6 Matheson Road, Stornoway, Lewis

Balone is a late 19th century villa located at 6 Matheson Road in Stornoway, Lewis. The building features a boundary wall with iron railings. It is constructed of rubble with squared dressings and painted details. The villa is two storeys high and has three bays. The central entrance is set in a shallow projecting porch and includes a panelled door topped by a rectangular fanlight. The outer bays have canted ground floor windows, while the first-floor windows extend above the eaves and feature gabled dormer heads; the outer bays have bipartite windows, and the central window is a wide single light. The sash windows have single dividing bars, with 4-pane glazing in the centre lights of both the ground floor and the central first-floor window, while the other windows are made of plate glass. The building has straight skews, end stacks, and a slate roof. The boundary wall is hartled and coped, stepped to follow the slope, and is topped by decorative cast-iron railings. It also features corniced square gatepiers and the original front gate.
