5 Matheson Road, Stornoway, Lewis

This late 19th century double villa on Matheson Road in Stornoway is a symmetrical building that stands two to three stories high. It is constructed from imported rock-faced brown ashlar with contrasting concrete detailing. The villa features sash windows and a slate roof. Each of the two houses has two bays, with the inner bays rising three stories and showcasing urn-finialed shaped gables. The two-storey window bays are topped with iron crests, and the top floor windows are round-arched. The outer doorways are set in wide, depressed-arched openings, with timber divides creating side-lights and fanlights. Cast-iron rainwater pipes are present, and there are end stacks. The low boundary walls along the street are topped with decorative cast-iron railings and original gates.
