11 Matheson Road, Stornoway, Lewis

This late 19th century double villa at 11 Matheson Road in Stornoway is two storeys high and features iron-railed boundary walls. The building has four bays, arranged as two on each side, with inner doorways. The outer bays have full-height canted windows, with the left bay (at No 11) featuring a polygonal turret roof, while a gabled attic dormer is located behind it on the right (at No 9). The overall design is symmetrical. The exterior is finished in painted render with contrasting detailing, and horizontal banding separates the floors. The windows have modern glazing. The timber divides in the doorways create sidelights and fanlights, although the door framing on the left has been altered. The villa has end and centre axial stacks and a slate roof, with different types of slate used for each house. The boundary walls are topped with decorative cast-iron railings, and there are closed-spaced front gates along with outer vehicle gates that have square gatepiers.
