Description
26 Hay Street in Elgin is a mid-19th century, two-storey building featuring three bays and a central door. The façade showcases a classical portico supported by a pair of Roman Doric columns. The front is made of ashlar stone with polished ashlar dressings, while the corners are accentuated with rusticated quoins and the flanks are constructed from rubble. The ground floor has tripartite cornices that connect with a cill band at the first-floor windows. The first floor features moulded architraves and apron panels, along with a moulded eaves cornice. The front elevation has 12-pane sash windows, while the side and rear elevations have 4-pane windows. The building is topped with shafted and corniced end stacks and a slate roof. At the rear, there is a single-storey rubble service wing with an attic, which includes two canted dormers and also has a slate roof. Additionally, there is rubble walling along Moray Street.
