Moray College Of Further Education, Gordon Street, Elgin

Moray College of Further Education, located on Gordon Street in Elgin, was designed by George Sutherland in 1890 and showcases Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. This single-storey building is arranged in an L-shape, featuring a long, four-bay gabled frontage facing Gordon Street. At the re-entrant angle, there is a tall two-stage tower topped with a pyramidal slated roof. The exterior is constructed of bull-faced rubble and includes some Romanesque detailing.

The tower features triple round-arched windows at its base, while the upper section has elongated paired round-arched lancets with angle shafts and gargoyles at the corners. A large porch is located to the southeast, which has two semi-circular headed arched entrances supported by piers with short angle shafts and stiff-leaf capitals. To the west of the tower, there is an advanced south-facing bay that contains a large round-arched window with cast-iron tracery, similar to that found in the east gable.

Additional architectural details include cable moulding along the eaves course, ornate skew stones with kneelers, stone finials, decorative glazing, hoodmoulds, and a battered base course. The building is topped with a slate roof. The entrance is flanked by octagonal gate piers made of ashlar stone, which are capped with pyramidal copes.
