Mansfield House Hotel, 2 Mayne Road, Elgin

Mansfield House Hotel is a large, austere dwelling built in 1839, likely designed by William Robertson. It stands three stories high and has three bays facing south. The exterior is made of coursed rubble with finely tooled dressings and raised margins. The central entrance features a polished ashlar moulded doorpiece and is accessed by a flight of stairs that oversails a raised basement. The windows have 12-pane glazing, and the building includes an eaves band, ridge and wallhead stacks, and a shallow piended slate roof.

To the north of the main building, there is a pair of two-story, two-bay stables and a coach house, which are linked by a Tudor arch. This arch is also repeated in a blind form twice on each of the north elevations facing Mayne Road. These structures are constructed of rubble with tooled margins and have slate roofs.

The property is enclosed by rubble garden walls and features railings along the street.
