Description

Glenacre is a later 19th century, two-storey, three-bay classical villa located at 14-18 Victoria Road in Gourock. The building has a rectangular plan and features a basement at the rear. It is rendered and painted, with a base course, a channelled ground floor, and a triglyph frieze and cornice above the ground floor. The eaves are overhanging and supported by moulded brackets, while the reveals are chamfered. The outer angles at the first floor are stop-rollmoulded. The ground floor windows have panelled aprons, and the first floor windows have recessed aprons with a chip-carved motif. The first floor features rounded corners, ashlar mullions, and elaborate stacks with bracketed cornices and strapwork carving.

On the southeast (front) elevation, there is a central doorway flanked by narrow sidelights, with chip-carved detail on the lintel and corbel brackets supporting the cornice. The entrance has a two-leaf panelled door. Above, a round-arched window is set under the projecting eaves cornice, which is also supported by corbel brackets, with a wallhead stack above. The outer bays have tripartite windows.

The northeast elevation has an advanced bay in the centre, accessed by a bridge with a secondary doorway. This doorway features chip-carved detail on the lintel and corbel brackets supporting the cornice, along with a two-leaf panelled door and an 8-pane fanlight above. There is a round-arched window at the first floor above this entrance, and two wallhead stacks.

The northwest (rear) elevation showcases an advanced centre bay with a three-storey quadripartite bowed window, while the outer bays contain bipartite windows.

On the southwest elevation, there are windows in the centre and two wallhead stacks. The villa features timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing. The roof is piended and platform slate with metal flashings, and there are five wallhead stacks. The eaves gutter is moulded.

The boundary walls consist of a low rendered wall at the front, complemented by four rendered and panelled gatepiers that have deep bracketed cornices and a Greek key pattern motif.
