Description

The Old School House in West Green, Culross, is a later 19th century, two-storey, three-bay house designed in an L-shape. The exterior features pebble-dash with long and short ashlar surrounds for the windows and doors, as well as quoins. A moulded string course runs at the level of the ground floor window lintels, and there is a base course present. The rear has a raised left vertical margin.

On the south elevation, the central door is topped by a two-pane fanlight. To the left is a bipartite window, and to the right is a tripartite window. Above the door, there is a central window flanked by bipartite windows. The west elevation is partially visible and presents a plain gable with a stone inscribed 'IH MB 1614' set into the apex. The north elevation is also partially visible from 2001, featuring a round-headed stair window to the right and a first-floor window to the left. A later rear wing extends to the right, which includes two ground floor windows and a first-floor window to the right, along with another first-floor window in the left return. The east elevation is a plain gable.

The windows are made of plate glass and are timber sash and case style with moulded horns. There are rooflights at the rear, and the entrance features a panelled timber door. The roof is pitched and covered with slate, with coped gable apex stacks on both the house and the rear wing. A decorative hopper is located on the right side of the principal elevation.

The interior was not seen in 2001. Surrounding the property are tall brick garden walls with ashlar coping stones to the west at the rear, and a garden wall to the north that sweeps at the east.
