Description

Sandhaven House is a 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house located in Sandhaven, Culross. The building features two ground floor bay windows, a base course, and vertical margins at the arrises. The principal elevation is constructed of coursed ashlar, while the other sides are rendered.

The north (principal) elevation is symmetrical, with a central pilastered door that includes a radial fanlight. Flanking the door are canted bay windows, and the roofs of these bay windows extend to create a canopy over the door, supported by two piers. There are three architraved windows on the first floor at the eaves.

The north elevation has a plain gable wall, while the south elevation is partially visible and includes an advanced later central piended wing with a ground floor window and a first floor window on the right return. There is also a modern flat-roofed single-storey porch to the right, with first floor windows flanking the advanced wing.

The west elevation is also partially visible, featuring a first floor window on the left side. The house has a timber panelled front door and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. There is a single roof light on the north side and two on the south side, with casements on the bay windows that have cockspur latches. The roof is pitched and covered with slate, featuring corniced gable apex stacks with polygonal cans, and a small stack on the southwest rear wing.

The interior was not seen as of 2001. A rubble garden wall runs from the west gable to the rear of the property, with brick in places and a doorway. An iron gate is located to the east.
