Electricity Sub-Station, 22 Mid Causeway, Culross

The building at 22 Mid Causeway in Culross is a 17th-century, two-storey, two-bay structure that has been converted into an electricity substation. It features harled walls with exposed stone surrounds around the windows and door.

On the southeast elevation, there is a large doorway to the right and a window to the left, with a small first-floor window above the door. A lamp is positioned to the left, and there is another window at the far left. The first-floor windows are close to the eaves, and the first floor jetties slightly to the left.

The southwest elevation has a plain gable with rough rubble stonework visible beneath the harl, and there is an exposed rubble stone wall attached to the left.

The northwest elevation was not visible in 2001.

The northeast elevation adjoins 20 Mid Causeway. The building has timber sash and case and casement windows, along with a two-leaf timber boarded door. It has a pitched roof with raised crow-stepped skews and gable apex stacks.

Inside, the building has been gutted, with the ground floor ceiling removed. Some features remain, including a fireplace on the southwest gable wall with a large sandstone lintel, and a stone surround for the first-floor fireplace above. The northwest wall has a ground floor window to the right and a first-floor window at the far left, both with stone surrounds. The northeast wall has a ground floor door surround to the left and a first-floor door surround centered above. The interior has a modern tiled floor and modern electricity equipment.
