Ailsa, Kilkerran Road, Campbeltown

Ailsa is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, three-bay classical house located on Kilkerran Road in Campbeltown. It has a rectangular plan with squared and stugged rubble walls, featuring painted ashlar dressings on the principal front, lined and rendered side elevations, and a plain rendered rear elevation. The principal front includes a base course and eaves cornice, with corresponding cornices at the rear corners. The windows and corners have raised margins, and the cills project.

On the southwest elevation facing Kilkerran Road, there is a pilastered doorpiece at the center, topped with a cornice and block pediment. The entrance features a deep-set grained four-panel door with a plate glass fanlight above, flanked by windows, and regular fenestration on the first floor.

The northeast rear elevation is three bays wide and includes a tall stair window positioned slightly to the right at an intermediate level. The house has twelve-pane timber sash and case windows on the front and rear, with an eighteen-pane stair window. The roof is covered with grey slate and features skew copes, along with cast-iron gutters and downpipes on the rear elevation. The stacks are rendered and coped, topped with circular cans.

Additionally, there is a cast-iron railing with fleur-de-lis finials on the northwest side over a coped dwarf wall. A modern flat-roofed garage is located at the rear of the house, adjacent to a random rubble garden wall.
