Description
8-10 Church Street in Tranent is a late 18th-century, two-storey, five-bay house that has been subdivided, with No. 10 located at the rear and featuring a forestair. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, which is roughly pointed and painted at the rear, with some ashlar dressings also painted.
On the east elevation, the ground floor windows have been altered and now feature chamfered reveals. There is a door at the center, a bipartite window to the outer left, and a window in each bay to the right. The first floor has windows located in the outer right and in each bay to the left of the center. The south elevation, which faces the driveway, is a blank gable. The property is adjoined to the north.
The east elevation features plate glass and 12-pane glazing patterns in the sash and case windows. The building has ashlar coped skews with beak skewputts, end stacks, and a roof covered with red pantiles and a slate eaves course.
