Description

The Parish Church Hall on Church Street in Tranent was built between 1827 and 1830. It features a regular-plan design with a classical facade. The building is constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings on the sides and rear, while the front has a grey ashlar facade that includes base and cill courses as well as a cornice.

The west elevation has three wide bays separated by broad pilasters. The central door is flanked by pilasters and features two-leaf doors with a small-pane fanlight above. There has been masonry renewal above the doorway, which replaced the former church name. The outer bays have tall ground floor windows, and smaller windows for the gallery are located above each bay. A segmental blocking course and end dies complete this elevation.

The north elevation consists of four bays and includes a lean-to porch addition at the ground level on the outer right, flanked by a window, with a smaller gallery window above. There are two tall windows in the bays to the left of the center.

The south elevation also has four bays, with a later door, possibly for a boilerhouse, inserted to the outer left, accompanied by a red brick stack. A gallery window is situated to the left of the center, with two tall windows in the bays to the right of the center.

The east elevation has two bays featuring tall round-arched windows. The sash and case windows on the west elevation and gallery have a small-pane glazing pattern, while the remaining windows have a square leaded pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and has lead flashings.

Additionally, there are decorative wrought-iron gates and railings, along with low ashlar coped walls, an ashlar pedestrian gate, and gatepiers. The property also features rubble coped retaining walls.
