Description

71 High Street in Tranent is a two-storey tenement building from the later 18th century, featuring a shop on the ground floor. It is adjoined by a later property to the west and has a narrow wynd to the east. The windows were enlarged in the 19th century. The north elevation is finished with painted harling, while the side and rear are in natural harl, with a base course.

On the north elevation, there are three narrow bays with a door in the center, flanked by windows, and three first-floor windows above. The east elevation, facing the wynd, has two doors and two first-floor windows.

The south elevation is gabled, with a door that has been blocked and converted into a window on the right side. There is evidence of a former chimney breast in the center and a first-floor window on the left. The sash and case windows feature a 12-pane glazing pattern. The building has brick stacks, with the end stacks harled, and a red pantiled piend roof on the north side.
