Essex Park, Kellwood Place, Dumfries

Essex Park is a villa built between 1830 and 1840, featuring two storeys and three bays, along with a full-height rear wing. It was renovated around 1984. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar, with contrasting dressings and rusticated quoins. The central entrance has a pilastered doorcase with a round-headed doorway, a panelled door, and a fanlight above. The villa has modern plate glass sash windows and includes a string course at the first-floor cill level, an eaves and lintel band, a mutule cornice, and end stacks. The roof is piended and currently covered with concrete tiles. There is a low garden wall that includes two pairs of square, rusticated ashlar gatepiers.
