Presbytery, St Joseph's R C College, Craigs Road, Dumfries

The presbytery at St Joseph's Roman Catholic College on Craigs Road in Dumfries is a large college building from the later 19th century. It has a rectangular plan and stands three storeys tall with attics. The exterior is constructed of bull-faced red ashlar stone, featuring polished dressings.

The building has a symmetrical design with a central gable that projects outward, topped by a bellcote with a cross finial and a large chimney stack located behind it. The main entrance is a doorway situated in the centre of the projecting bay, flanked by single windows. Above the entrance, there are bipartite round-headed windows on the first and second floors, while the third floor features a Venetian window with a statue in a central niche.

On either side of the central gable, there are four bays. The building has string courses at the first floor and attic cill level, although most of the attic string course has been removed. The attic windows break through the eaves and are topped with gabled dormer heads. The sash windows, which primarily have a 4-pane glazing pattern, contribute to the overall aesthetic. The roof is large and ridged, with twin end stacks positioned near the ridge, and is covered with slate featuring brattishing.
