Mount St Michael's, St Joseph's R.C. College, Craigs Road, Dumfries

Mount St Michael's, located at St Joseph's R.C. College on Craigs Road in Dumfries, is a Neo-Tudor villa designed by Walter Newall around 1820, with later additions. The building features a single-storey, L-plan service wing at the north, constructed in two phases and includes a basement. It is built from rubble with ashlar dressings, chamfered reveals, and shaped skews, with some windows having hood moulds; all windows are painted. The roofs are covered with slate.

The original house has five bays on the northwest (entrance) side and three bays on the southeast side, each with an advanced central gable. The northwest gable includes a porch with a Tudor-arched door and engaged octagonal shafts at the corners that rise to support dummy flues. The southwest end features a similarly treated gabled bay with a canted window. There is a string course at the cill level. The sash windows, mostly with 12-pane glazing, add to the character of the building. The L-plan wing has gabled dormer heads at ground level and bipartite windows, with three small basement lights facing southeast; the northwest return is constructed of brick.
