Ladyfield West

Ladyfield West is a single-storey Greek Revival style villa designed by Walter Newall of Dumfries in 1812. It features a concealed attic and is set on a raised basement facing east, with a symmetrical three-bay rectangular plan situated on sloping ground in a wooded area. The main facade showcases a classical central pedimented Ionic porch, with the entrance positioned behind it and flanked by pilasters, along with a blocked semi-circular fanlight above.

The villa is primarily constructed of polished ashlar dressed stone in the upper section, while the basement level is made of rusticated ashlar, all of which is painted. A band course separates the floors, and there is a string course at the cill level of the upper floor, topped with a cornice and blocking course. Most exterior windows are blocked, and the central upper bay window openings feature shallow round-headed recesses. All window openings are adorned with moulded architraves and cornices. The roof incorporates non-traditional materials.

The interior was observed in 2013, revealing that much of the detailing has been removed, although the general room layout from the early 19th century remains apparent.
